It would be safe to say that it is very difficult to select focus tracks on this record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It shifts swiftly from song to song, musically and thematically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each one is written with distinguishable sensitivity and taste; ear worms lurk behind the bars in every composition. On top of that, it is meticulously crafted and well produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If one is to be hard-pressed however, titles like One Good Reason<\/em> (track 2), I Am so Afraid<\/em> (track 3), We Gotta Do It<\/em> (track 7) and The Man on the Moon <\/em>(track 8) most certainly deserve the spotlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halatchev\u2019s personality truly shines in One Good Reason<\/em>. It is a song about commitment, devotion, persistence and perseverance; a manifest to strength and never giving up despite of the challenges and obstacles life throughs at you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I Am so Afraid<\/em> is a passionate and driven piece reflecting on the depth and magnitude one reaches in finding a soulmate. Music and words blend perfectly to culminate in a profound confession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We Gotta Do It<\/em> is a playful, flirty and catchy number which leaves you humming long after the final chord is struck. Its suggestive lyrics weave wonderfully provoking mischievous thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Man on the Moon<\/em> \u201cis not about the man on the moon\u201d, as Halatchev puts it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It celebrates his longstanding friendship and collaboration with his partner in crime; their ability to understand and accept each other\u2019s flaws and complexities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final track Bouquet of Sun Rays<\/em> features Albane Chateau on lead vocals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The performance is absolutely stunning as she captures the mood of the song and transcends it with confidence and humility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One may argue this (14th to date) album is Icicle<\/a>\u2019s best. It is mature, vibrant, deeply emotional and topically complex. Yet, it flows like a gust of fresh air and it is over just when you feel you would like some more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This forthcoming, 13th to date studio album, is another excellent example of Icicle’s unique sound and poignant lyrics.
Written and recorded by the songwriter\/bassist\/singer in his Montreal studio, the album taps into the sonic palettes and lyrical themes of its predecessors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“PRUDENCE is a record that I\u2019ve been working on for a while,\u201d Halatchev says. “I’d like to think that it captures the ups and downs of modern life and all the small print in between\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The groove-led first single \u2018Not at Ease\u2019 (track 10) reveals Halatchev’s look back on his turbulent and traumatic childhood. It is blunt and does not shy away from exposing the weight it poses on him to this day. “Our traumas and our memories are what defines us. Confronting them is the only way to heal and grow.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second single ‘You Got Me Running’ (track 9) is about a heavy period he endured with his long-time partner.
\u201cThe feeling of love and all its complications and the reality of a life without that love\u2026
It\u2019s basically saying, albeit with a few dark edges, \u2018My life is better with you in it\u2019.\u201d
Halatchev continues – \u201cI think this song is very much light and dark in equal measures. Those contradictions are like love itself – exuberant and painful; blissful and melancholic\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The closing song (track 12) \u2018Beetle on My Thumb’ draws on lyrics by Halatchev’s said partner in crime, Antonia Gueorguieva.
“This is not her first rodeo” he chuckles. “In fact, she has written a number of lyrics for Icicle over the years for which I am grateful and humbled. All I can add is that I couldn’t have put it better!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Krassy Halatchev (Icicle) has proven with his 11 studio albums to date that he has a lot of colours in his musical palette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axioms <\/strong>is no exception with its 12 tracks of driven alt rock\/pop that is chock-full of imagination and good beats. The sound is as eclectic as it is manic, but it is the quirkiness that unifies it all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s the same kind of musical Krazy-Glue that bonds such acts as Foals, The Stone Roses, Arctic Monkeys, Beck, Spoon, Blur, Kasabian, Talking Heads… to name a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axioms <\/strong>goes in many directions throughout its 12 compositions but the manic, head-spinning theme continues throughout. Snowman at My Door <\/em>(track 2) is a cool, hypnotic trip well backed by acoustic guitar and keys, with the latter breaking into subtle shimmering stars at the choice moment. This is Not a Love Song <\/em>(second single\/track 9) is another enjoyable sing-along tune based around a P.I.L.-esque vocal hook and some hip-hop style well stitched verses. Desert Tree <\/em>(first single\/track 11) is a beautiful heartfelt piece about the colliding forces of science and ambition. It should well provide some clues to the other strange places that Icicle will lead you to throughout this record. Meanwhile, bluesy guitar grooves provide the perfectly askew backdrop for White Horse, You Against You <\/em>and Tone It Down a Little<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Murder Is Murder<\/em> (track 2) is a groovy, bass-driven song with a heavy guitar intro riff to remind that there will always be challenges in the search for sanity and peace of mind, so often out of our reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We Are Both to Blame<\/em> (track 13) is a song dedicated to Halatchev\u2019s closest childhood friend, Bobby Karaboitchev, who first introduced him to the bass – still Krassy\u2019s favourite instrument. Bobby died of an overdose before he even reached 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe was my Syd Barrett\u201d reminisces Halatchev. \u201cI miss him to this day and hope he finally found peace or perhaps peace found him. After all, life is an incurable disease.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Krassy Halatchev, a familiar face in the Canadian music scene, lays new ground as Icicle<\/strong> with Resurgence<\/strong><\/em>, due for release September 21. The solo debut contains entirely original and personal compositions. It bounces between rock and pop. It is both accessible and innovative yet open and defiant. Bright and multi-layered sounds fill the 51-minute album, created during an exceptionally intense period for the artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halatchev has charmed Canadian and\ninternational audiences for over two decades following his defection from\ncommunist Bulgaria with the band The Clouds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 1996 to 2012, he was a core member of\nthe Montreal-based band Chiwawa \u2013 a group that had some success touring as well\nas collaborating on various film and video projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Resurgence<\/strong><\/em> marks his first solo album, his collaborative spirit brought him together with Florida based poet Joel Jenkins who wrote lyrics for many of the songs. The merging of the cultural and expressive styles has brought forward a work that is both unique yet familiar. \u201cMorning Bells\u201d, the album\u2019s second single and closing track, draws on a text by Halatchev\u2019s partner Antonia Gueorguieva. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
